Music for Relief Supports Pakistan Flood Aid
 Music for Relief is asking for your support to help more than half a million people displaced by flooding in Pakistan this year. Monsoon rains caused the worst flooding ever in Pakistan, submerging roads and bridges and cutting off survivors from critical supplies of medicine, food and clean water. 20 million people have been affected -- more than the number of people affected by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, Hurricane Katrina, and the 2010 Haiti earthquake combined. One-fifth of the country was underwater, covering over 3.2 million hectares, roughly the area of Italy! The water has damaged 14% of Pakistan's cultivated land. With their homes and livestock lost, millions of families have had their lives turned upside down. Displaced families are camping on roadsides. Many lack shelter, food, and clean water. Angelina's Plea for Help
UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, Angelina Jolie, Stresses More Help Needed for Pakistan's Flood Victims UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, Angelina Jolie "This is not just a humanitarian crisis; it is an economic and social catastrophe," says Jolie. Jolie is the personal envoy of UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres. She traveled in September to affected communities and met people involved in the relief efforts. The Goodwill Ambassador has appealed for greater public support for efforts to provide continued humanitarian relief to the millions of people who lives have been devastated by the floods inundating much of Pakistan. In her new video message above, Jolie points to the sheer scale of the disaster. YOU CAN HELP UNHCR teams in Pakistan have provided shelter and other emergency supplies to hundreds of thousands of people caught up in the disaster. But with nearly 20 million people estimated to have been affected, the needs of the victims are outpacing the ability of humanitarian organizations to provide assistance. The UN Refugee Agency revised upwards it global appeal for the Pakistan flood operation to $120 million from $ 41 million. Angelina Jolie has made three trips to Pakistan since becoming a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador in 2001, and at the outbreak of the current crisis donated $100,000 to the agency for its assistance work there. |

Since its inception in 2005, Music for Relief has raised over $3.5 million for victims of multiple disasters across four continents including the 2005 tsunami in Southeast Asia, hurricanes Katrina and Rita, wildfires in Southern California & Victoria Australia, China's Wenchuan earthquake, and a cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe. Music for Relief also supports environmental programs to help in prevention and mitigation of future natural disasters such as the Send Dirt campaign for wetlands protection and restoration and the Million Tree Project in China's Inner Mongolia Desert. MFR has organized a benefit concert featuring multiplatinum artists, sent musicians and volunteers to Southeast Asia and the U.S. Gulf Coast to help rebuild and donate supplies to people in need, and planted a million trees to help reduce global warming.
